Despite Kedah Mentri Besar Azizan Abdul Razak's persistent health problems, the PAS national leadership has decided to field him in the coming general election.

"He is on the list (of candidates)," confirmed PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang when met at a function in Kuala Lumpur today.

Hadi brushed aside suggestions that Azizan would be a liability because of his health problems.

"Everyone has health issues, even me," he said.

On whether Azizan would remain as the PAS' nominee for Kedah menteri besar, Abdul Hadi said this would be revealed on nomination day.

Azizan's health problems and leadership style - which have occasionally caused conflicts with Pakatan Rakyat component parties - have often raised questions on whether PAS would allow him to lead Kedah PAS again.

He underwent conorary bypass surgery in 2005 and an angioplasty procedure in 2011.

'No complaints on Azizan'

Meanwhile, PAS secretary-general Mustafa Ali said the party was unaware of any internal squables in Kedah and that he had only learned of the matter through the media.

"I believe that Azizan has the support of the party. I didn't receive any complaints yet," he said.

He said that as far as the party is concerned, Azizan is performing his duties as just fine.

He was responding to Utusan Malaysia's front page report today which claimed that majority of PAS divisions in Kedah wants Azizan to step down.

Mustafa brushed off the report as part of BN's strategy to attack PAS ahead of the upcoming general election.
