Penang BN Youth wants its arch-rival the DAP to apologise for labelling its Penang BN chief Teng Chang Yeow, as “ Facebook blind”.

State BN Youth chief Oh Tong Keong said he was “disappointed” with the remarks by Komtar assemblyperson Ng Wei Aik who labelled Teng as such, adding that it was unbecoming for a state representative.

Ng, who is state DAP Socialist Youth chief, made the remarks after Teng claimed on Sunday that the Penang BN Facebook page recorded two million “friends of fans”.

“Ng should not lie and mislead the public as he is a state assemblyperson. Please do not politicise the matter and apologise (to Teng) for your remark,” said Oh, who is state Gerakan Youth chief.

“The fact is that we (BN) have accumulated more than 10,000 ‘likes’ so far and we do have around 3 million ‘friends of fans’ up to date,” he added at a press conference at the BN operations centre in Dato Keramat.

NONE At the briefing, Oh ( right ) was accompanied by state Gerakan Youth vice-chief Ng Say Kheng, state BN Youth treasurer Hee Cheap Fong and state BN Youth committee member Tan Chooi Leng.

They were retaliating to Ng’s statement which included him saying that Teng should not “feel proud” about the figures he had quoted as the page likes were only about 10,000.

Ng was backed by the party’s social media strategist Yeo Bee Yin who said it was wrong for Teng to say that there are two millions fans on the BN’s Facebook page when those were merely “potential reach”.

She added that the total hits mentioned by Teng at a tea party with some 200 social media networkers were not about a fanbase, adding that the leader had his definitions all wrong.

Oh said Ng had tried to confuse the public by mentioning two different items ‘likes’ and ‘friends of fans’, giving the impression that the BN was uncertain about the terms.

He then criticised DAP for the party’s “wrong calculation” in internal elections for the new central executive committee line-up in Penang last December.

That discovery led to the DAP’s polls returning officer quitting his post and Zairil Khir Johari’s inclusion into the new central executive line-up, where he had previously appeared to have lost.

“That’s just about 1,800 votes. So it’s not surprising if Ng could not handle a large number like this case,” Oh said sarcastically.

No more comments on Psy

On the recent brouhaha surrounding top South Korean pop star Park Jae-sung’s (Psy) concert , Oh said BN would not be organising any further press conferences regarding the matter.

“Psy has returned to his native South Korea and this issue should not be brought up again,” said Oh, referring to Psy’s performance at the BN’s Chinese New Year open house at the Han Chiang College.

Psy had then performed his world famous ‘ Oppa Gangnam Style ' to an audience of 30,000 people, including Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak, his family and a team of BN leaders, including several ministers.

When asked to clarify whether he had commented in the press that “a female minister” had instructed the emcee to invite Psy to join the yee sang activity on stage, Oh merely laughed.

NONE He declined to issue any further statement regarding the fiasco, where despite BN leaders, including Najib, having waited on stage for a whole five minutes, clapping for the performer to join them toss the yee sang, Psy had failed to appear.

Since Tourism Minister Ng Yen Yen was the only female minister on stage, speculation abound that she was the one who had prompted the emcee to ask Psy to join the tossing.

But Yen Yen had evaded questions on the matter, blaming it on “DAP speculation” .

Sine Psy did not appear despite the emcee’s incessant urging, this led to speculations that Psy had snubbed Najib and his entourage.

However, Teng clarified that the delay was due to an attempt on the pop star’s life and the activity not being in his programme.
