Spin notwithstanding, a wake-up call for Pakatan
VOXPOP 'I wouldn't dismiss these findings by the EIU. I've been told they are highly professional and their predictions have most often been correct.'
BN will win GE13, says the Economist Intelligence Unit
Douglas Teoh: Wow. This is ridiculous. Misinterpreting and misquoting are not even that bad - we can still kind of (forcibly) attribute it to human error. After all, they're from Bernama ; errors are pretty common there, no?
Putting words in another's mouths - now that's disgusting. "It's no wonder the writing is on the wall for Pakatan as it tries to cobble together some opposition unity between its squabbling leaders before the polls."
I read through the page by Economist Intelligence Unit report twice, did a Google search on the sentence. Nowhere does it appear, except (surprise, surprise) by Bernama .
I have just written in to EIU regarding this issue, hopefully they will stand up to this disgusting misrepresentation of their research findings.
Thana55: Please read the original EIU report . It obviously is Bernama's third rate journalism more aptly described as 'spin artists'.
When Pakatan is in Putrajaya come GE13, get Bernama's editorial team to do a squat holding on to their ears for a group photo and publish it on the front page of all MSMs (mainstream media).
Hplooi: This seems to be written in some backroom of the PM's Department. However, whilst I agree with the analysis that BN will win, I differ on the reasons why BN will win.
1) BN will win on the back of Sabah and Sarawak - the 'fixed deposit states'. Whilst BN may lose all the urban seats, they will still sweep all the rural constituencies.
2) BN may possibly retake Selangor based on reconstitution of the electoral rolls.
I have just had a conversation with a Sabahan and he agreed with me that the small rural constituencies are "locked-up" (whether by parachuting/ejecting ballot box or wholesale vote buying or just plain ignorance of the voters).
My analysis is, to date they is no effective counter to the gerrymandered seats and possible manipulation of electoral rolls. This is why the EC is deadset against credible international observers and is plain acting dumb.
Kee Thuan Chye: I wouldn't dismiss these findings by the EIU. I've been told they are highly professional and their predictions have most often been correct. Pakatan should take these findings seriously and pull up its socks, especially in Sabah.
It needs to really cobble together an electoral pact with the local parties there, come hell or high water, or it will miss winning some precious, winnable seats. I wouldn't be surprised if BN were to win the GE.
Pakatan should not believe the spin of some of its supporters and get overconfident. It is an uphill battle to unseat BN from Putrajaya, no matter how you look at it.
It's better to take the humbler underdog position and work harder - at least to be an even stronger opposition if winning Putrajaya doesn't happen.
Baiyuensheng: Definitely BN will win the next GE - that is without saying. At least the journey to have a true dual-party system has started and the reality of achieving it is in sight.
Even if Umno-BN wins, they will now know that if they failed again to meet the rakyat aspirations, then it will doom for them. Five years come and go very fast. Pakatan Rakyat must stay united and fast in its commitment to change.
Vijay47: It is not for the material benefits promised that people are turning to Pakatan. It is for a new fresh life in Malaysia after decades of abuse and betrayal, where everyone gets a better deal and the corrupt and crooked will have to face the music.
It is for real justice, where the courts will decide based on the facts and the law. Nobody pretends that this will be achieved overnight or without stumbles and falls. But a start has to be made and that start was made in 2008.
Quigonbond: Apart from Bernama potentially misquoting the EIU, there's no reason to get all uptight about the EIU report.
In fact, with some in Pakatan bathing in false euphoria of the two birds in the bush, I find this to be a very appropriate wake-up call, especially for Pakatan politicians involved in recent tiffs and disagreements, and inability to yet form a cohesive electoral pack in Johor and Sabah.
I am confident of Pakatan policies, but BN remains a battered but yet to be beaten goliath.
PPP members 'ambush' Malaysian Nanban HQ
LittleGiant: This incident is just a sample of BN supporters' thuggery at work and that too before the elections are called. The rakyat should know to what extent BN supporters would go to unleash their aggressiveness when the official campaign begins.
If PPP was not happy with Malaysia Nanban's article, it should have had the decency to make an official complaint to the chief editor or the management of the newspaper.
But then, may be PPP supporters only believe in 'official high-handed tactics' and wanted to officially show their 'strength' to the newspaper team.
Vijay47: PPP president M Kayveas, that was truly heroic of you to single-handedly go to the Nanban office with 60 of your henchmen to sort out whoever spoke ill of your honourable party.
What a pity you could not display similar heroism when Rustam Ali went to your party convention, abused you, and asked all of you to take a flying leap . On that occasion, you were as courageous as a mouse. Mickey would have been proud of you.
Not Confused: More thuggish behaviour from a minority component party in BN. The propensity for violence runs deep throughout the entire corrupt BN regime. They must be shown the door without any second thought.
Onemalaysian: Why did PPP president have to take so many people with him? He could have gone and met the Nanban management and amicably settled this issue.
