Sibu parliamentarian Wong Ho Leng will not defend his seat in the coming 13th general election.

Announcing his decision here today, he said this was based on doctor's advice, following treatment for brain tumour at the Mount Elizabeth Hospital in Singapore.

NONE "I am making the decision, following doctor's advice that I need to have a good rest after completing six weeks of radiotheraphy and chemotheraphy treatment," he said.

Wong, 54, who is also Bukit Assek state assemblyman and state DAP chief, said he had informed DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng of his decision.

He said he had also told Lim of his choice of candidates for the coming polls which the party select committee would finalise in Kuching tomorrow.

Australian neurosurgeons first discovered a glicoma (brain tumour) in his brain stem during a medical check-up in Gold Coast on Dec 20, last year.

Wong won the Sibu seat on May 16, 2010 in a by-election, following the death of its incumbent, Robert Lau Hoi Chew, who was also transport deputy minister.
