About 1,000 green apples popped up in Bukit Bintang in Kuala Lumpur today, together with a call from PAS to young women voters to vote in the coming general election in large numbers.

The novel idea was an initiative by Ameerah Malaysia, a body under the PAS women's wing, to raise greater awareness of the people to vote in the election.

pas green apple wave Ameerah Malaysia chief Fareedah Samad said some 100 volunteers helped to distribute the fruit in the shopping district in the heart of the federal capital.

"We are giving out green apples as they are a symbol of young women, as they are not only

healthy but are similar to them in colour," Fareedah said at a press conference.

The team had planned to perform a flashmob at Pavillion shopping centre, but they were foiled by the volunteer police stationed there, who told them to disperse.

"Although there were some obstacles posed by the volunteer police, we managed to recite the PAS eight-point election declaration to young women to come out in numbers to get involved in the coming general election," she said.

Fareedah said the ‘Green Apple Wave' programme was being simultaneously held in Kelantan, Terengganu, Malacca and Sabah.

Their plans include a convoy around the country in March to raise awareness among those aged 21 to 35 to cast their votes.

Apart from apples, flyers were also distributed to outline the PAS election pledge, which includes reducing car prices, free education and the eradication of highway tolls.
