 PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang said the federal government&rsquo;s efforts to give the Bantuan Rakyat 1Malaysia (BR1M) is nothing new as the matter had been implemented by the Egyptian pharaoh ages ago.


 Abdul Hadi said the pharaoh had been giving out assistance, but it was not directed to improve their livelihood but to make the people stupid.

 "We (Pakatan) do not want to see the people become beggars but to uplift them by giving them proper jobs and creating new ones.


 "In Pakatan Rakyat we do not want to insult the people as it is the responsibility of the government to make the people cleverer.


 "That is why when the government gives, you put it in your pocket as it is the people&rsquo;s money, as you all are not chickens or ducks but people," he said, in mocking what had been reported in the mainstream media.


 The mainstream media had been misquoting Kelantan Menteri Besar Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat, alleging he had described BR1M recipients as animals, whereas the revered leader had said that what the government gives is just leftovers (
 
 hampas
 
 ).


 Where is the justice for the people, asked Abdul Hadi as they give little to the people but what enters their (BN) pockets is more.


 The PAS president started his speech in reciting the Quran, then highlighted the issue of good governance and democracy, saying that race-based political parties are no longer relevant.


 Abdul Hadi noted that in Islam, there is an equal implementation of the law that even the Prophet Muhammad had said that if Fatimah (his daughter) steals, there will be punishment accorded, which is the opposite of what BN does.


 &ldquo;Once, the (second khalif) Sayidina Umar punished the son of the then Egyptian governor for slapping a non-Muslim. If a person committed a wrong, he would be punished, unlike in BN.&rdquo;


 
 Breaking racial politics
 


 The PAS president likened its alliance in Pakatan as breaking the racial barriers.


 &ldquo;What we have developed is to give democracy and a clean government to the people, thus making racial politics as irrelevant.


 &ldquo;Pakatan has smashed the barrier of racial politics to make BN, Umno, MCA, and MIC as irrelevant. That is why we should not fight, as a quarrel between PAS, DAP, and PKR would only benefit Umno and BN,&rdquo; he said.


 Abdul Hadi added that democracy is the people&rsquo;s right, and that people should become the judge themselves.


 He said what we see in BN's 50 years of rule are abuses in wakaf lands, a submarine which cannot submerge, and a dirty government.


 &ldquo;What has been shown in Kelantan typifies the Pakatan and PAS spirit, that when you discriminate against us, we remain patient despite the adversities faced for over 20 years. However, we would never betray the people,&rdquo; he stressed.&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

 Meanwhile, DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng (

 ) said that although he has been cast as anti-Islam, he has showed the Penang state&rsquo;s achievements to prove otherwise. For instance, they have increased the wages for religious officers and religious schools, and has since outlawed football bets as well.&nbsp;


 Criticising Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak's integrity pledge, Lim said that the former had not declared his assets to the people, unlike the Pakatan Penang government.


 He also suggested that the first thing the Pakatan government should do when it takes over Putrajaya, is to direct all airports to not allow private jets from leaving the country.


 Lim stressed that corruption - if allowed to continue - would result in a destruction of the country.


 He said the country had seen many scandals with BN, such as the Port Klang Free Zone, the condo scandal, the Maika debacle, and others.


 &ldquo;Hence, we should stop all these abuses by BN to enrich themselves. Let us lift the veil of darkness, and let us bring about the Pakatan Rakyat government,&rdquo; he added.


 Lim also said that the call by Dr Mahathir Mohamad to amend the constitution to strip Bersih co-chairperson Ambiga Sreenevasan's citizenship is improper, and we should deny BN such powers to do this.
