A massive traffic jam was reported on the Penang Bridge from Butterworth heading towards George Town today.

Operations officer at the North-South Expressway Traffic Control Centre, Amran Ahmad, when contacted by Bernama , said the traffic congestion was due to a technical problem, which had been identified as due to a bridge joint.

We are now waiting for further report from the contractor in charge, he added.

He said the problem was detected at 10.37am.

“Following that, we are forced to close the middle section of one of the lanes,” he added.

He advised motorists to plan their journey by taking alternative routes to avoid being trapped in the traffic congestion on the bridge.
