The police observe neutrality and do not take sides with any political party when conducting operations, in lieu of the coming 13th general election.

Bukit Aman CID director Mohd Bakri Zinin said the police had always practised a policy of neutrality, including in terms of political ideology.

“I am not saying that someone’s opinion about something is wrong. Everyone has a right to freedom of speech. But they have to be responsible in what they say, by furnishing proof.

“Don’t accuse without reasonable grounds, that the police are used as a tool of the government for any (political) party.

“For example, inspector-general of police Ismail Omar has personally met with parties and non-governmental organisations during the 112 gathering on Dec 1,” he told Bernama today.

He said the police saw every complaint as requiring action based on the law, and did not discriminate, in terms of action taken.

“So, don’t (hurl accusations and) say we are the government’s dogs, or cows which are pierced at the nose, and that we only obey certain quarters to achieve an aim.

“The police institution has existed since 206 years ago, and has been professional in its actions,” stressed Mohd Bakri.
