Penang Perkasa has urged the Penang government to review the notice to evict a poor disabled woman from a People’s Housing Project (PPRT) housing unit.

Its youth chief, Mohd Rizuad Mohd Azudin said the Penang Municipal Council (MPPP) had ordered Katihja Bee Latiff, 46, to leave the PPRT in Jalan Sungai, Sungai Pinang, unless she settles licence fee arrears amounting RM1,836.

“She doesn’t even have money for meals, and they want to evict her. Is this the attitude of a state government that is transparent, efficient and fair?

“I urge MPPP to be more humane in solving this problem. Where can she, her three children and two grandchildren go?. They don’t have any income,” he told reporters after handing over donation, wheelchair and daily essentials to Katihja Bee at her home in George Town today.

Mohd Rizuad said he would consult with Tenaga Nasional Berhad to reconnect electricity supply to Katihja Bee’s house.

When interviewed, Katihja Bee said her life took a turn for the worse after her husband died from a heart disease in 2010.

She was unable to work after suffering from diabetes and as a result, her leg had to be amputated.

“We can’t afford to pay house rent of RM102 per month. There is no electricity for two years as we could not pay the bills,” she added.

The family depends entirely on RM300 monthly aid from the Zakat Centre and RM150 from the Welfare Department.
