Election Commission (EC) deputy chairperson Wan Ahmad Wan Omar, has said it was mere wild allegations that he was siding with BN or Umno, as all of his statements had been directed in defending the commission.

    

“I am telling the truth, look at my statements, it is based on the law and (EC’s) regulations as I have been with the commission for a long time.

“I replied and defended the EC, it is not that I am inclined to any political party, but as a voter, I have rights. However, as the deputy chairperson, I have to explain the provisions of the laws and regulations. My statement is not malicious and it is not directed to hit (at detractors) or any other targets,” he said.    

Wan Ahmad added that such allegations came from those who had violated the regulations.

“I understand my job, that is why we meet with political parties and the non-governmental organisations (NGO), including NGOs like Bersih 2.0.

“But they have been talking about the same thing. We gave a briefing in the Parliament and respond to their allegations. We chose the Parliament as it is easy for them to meet. If it is held elsewhere, maybe they would not (have) come. However, those who came from the opposition parties were only 20 people,” he said in response to the criticisms faced by the EC.

According to Wan Ahmad, they tried their level best to fulfill all the demands, including those from the Bersih 2.0 coalition.

“What else are their (Bersih's) demands? It does not have anything to do with the commission, (things) like dirty politics or strengthening the public institutions,” he claimed.
