Sarawak’s Golden Jubilee celebrations which falls this year will be launched on March 31, said Deputy Chief Minister Alfred Jabu in Kuching today.
He said Head of State Abang Muhammad Salahuddin Barieng and Chief Minister Abdul Taib Mahmud will deliver keynote addresses on the night of the launch.
“We have lined-up several events in conjunction with this celebration for the enjoyment of people from all walks of life,” he told a press conference after chairing the celebration’s main committee meeting in Kuching.
The highlight of the celebrations would be marked by a massive parade at Padang Merdeka in Kuching on Sept 16, he said.
“We’re expecting a very big turnout for this parade as we would be extending invitations to federal and Sabah leaders as well,” he said.
Jabu said among the other activities were cultural symposiums, development exhibitions and a Golden Jubilee memorial medals presentation ceremony.
He added that they would be held in the main cities, towns and a number of rural settlements.
“The message we want to spread is that Sarawakians have every reason to join in the celebrations after all our achievements in the last 50 years,” he added.
Sarawak was included into the formation of Malaysia on Sept 16, 1963.
