Selangor Menteri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim has demanded that The Star retracts its misleading headline, ‘Selangor MB slams Tian Chua', which was published yesterday, or face a lawsuit.

NONE "The headline for the comments of Menteri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim on Tian Chua's alleged and unproven remarks is extremely irresponsible, inaccurate and made in bad faith," Khalid's political secretary Faekah Husin said in a statement yesterday.

She said the English daily's headline was misleading as Khalid ( left ) had in no way "slammed" the PKR vice-president.

The sub-head above the report says, ‘Khalid in disbelief that fellow party leader could doubt Sabah threat', which Faekah also disputes.

She pointed out that the report only quoted Khalid as saying "he (Tian Chua) respected and believed in the efforts made by the police and armed forces in defending the country's sovereignty", and that "he (Khalid) did not think that a PKR leader would issue such a statement".

"Nowhere in these comments is there an element of 'slamming'," she said.

NONE Faekah ( right ) demanded the MCA-owned daily prints a retraction and an apology with immediate effect.

"In case of their failure to do so, we reserve the right to take legal action," she said.

Chua has been receiving flak from the ruling party and its supporters for allegedly blaming Umno for the Lahad Datu insurgency.

However, the PKR leader maintains that he was merely commenting on the media blackout on the intrusion and that his words did not specifically imply an Umno conspiracy in the Sulu conflagration.

Meanwhile, Umno-owned daily Utusan Malaysia and pro-Umno bloggers have cited a Philippine media report suggesting a link between the Lahad Datu fiasco and PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim.
