Despite the threat of a lawsuit by Umno Youth and MyEG, PKR will not withdraw its allegations pertaining to the 1Malaysia Licence Assistance Programme (BL1M), said party central committee member Chang Lih Kang.

NONE Chang ( right ) was responding to the seven-day grace period given by Umno Youth and MyEG Services Berhad on Friday for the party to withdraw statements made during a press conference last week, in which the latter had alleged the scheme is a "fraud” and used to enrich Umno cronies.

“If Umno Youth and MyEG want to take legal action, there is no need to wait for the seven-day period to end.

“We will take full responsibility over the statements we issued, and will face them in court, Chang said in a statement issued today.

‘Scrap BL1M’

He said PKR urges the government scrap the programme, which was launch on Jan 31 to help youth obtain a motorcycle license at a reduced fee of RM199.

BL1M comes under the purview of Umno Youth while MyEG is tasked with its implementation.

In the statement today, Chang said PKR maintained that "conflict of interest" exists in Raja Munir Shah Raja Mustapha’s dual role as Tanjung Umno division deputy head, and MyEG executive director and shareholder.

He further reiterates PKR’s claim that while BL1M candidates pay a RM199 fee to MyEG, the latter gives less, as low as RM100, to driving institutes, allowing MyEG to profit millions.

“We have no problem if a politician becomes an entrepreneur. However, this entrepreneur cum politician should not take advantage of a government project to garner profits,” he said.
