About 30 houses in Taman Mutiara, Sungai Kob in Kulim, were damaged during a thunderstorm, yesterday afternoon.

During the 5.20pm incident, the roofs of seven houses were blown off by strong winds while several other houses suffered extensive damage said Taman Mutiara Umno branch chairperson Dr Raja Zainol Raja Mohd Hashim said.

“More than 20 large trees were also uprooted in the area and we had to call the Fire and Rescue Department from Kulim Hi-Tech Park here and the Civil Defence Force (JPAM) in Kulim to held clear the trees," he told reporters in Kulim today.

He said Padang Serai Barisan Nasional coordinator Chin Tung Leung, officers from the Kulim Welfare Department Kulim and Federal Development department in Kulim were visiting the victims to determine losses suffered in the thunderstorm.
