Even though this is commendable, they should allow the court to pass judgment and not settle out of court.

They are public figures and it is in the interest of the people at large that those who make damaging remarks should let justice deal with them accordingly, and also have it on the record.

Survivor: Former Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief commissioner Ahmad Said Hamdan should come clean and tell all openly, whether there was interference in his work during his tenure as MACC chief from those who walk in the corridors of power.

888: MB Khalid should learn from former Singapore premier, Lim Kuan Yew. Defaming a menteri besar is not a small matter. Punishment must be severe to reflect the seriousness of the offence. Otherwise, it will be repeated again.

Democrat: Dear MB and your lawyers, please include a clause in your settlement that the apology be carried prominently in all the mainstream media.

If the defamatory report was on page one, the apology should be on page one. If the papers refuse to carry the apology, then Ahmad Said should put it in an advertisement on page one. Please do this and teach The Star and Utusan a lesson.

Anon: Is it not too lenient to let a high-ranking civil servant off the hook just by letting him apologise? It seems he has not functioned with honesty but has been influenced by politics.

He seems not to have understood that civil servants work for the state and not for a political party.

Imagine the problems a man with his loose tongue can create for other people. This was a completely irresponsible fellow who dared to utter that "there was possible abuse of power by Khalid".

Was he plain irresponsible and not bright enough to understand what he was doing? Or if he was ordered like lawyer Cecil Abraham , then he better come clean now and tell the truth.

I remember with how gung-ho this man was in going after the Selangor MB soon after the former ACA (Anti-Corruption Agency) was given broader powers and renamed as MACC.

In fact, this infantile civil servant was proud to announce that they acted with great efficiency to bring the MB to book and this was their first case under the new structure. We need a new administration to right the topsy turvy civil service.

YF: This does not solve the well-known problem. Who investigates the corruption of the MACC?

Vijay47: I cannot understand why all these out-of-court settlements must be steeped in secrecy.

These sycophants feel that being Umno supporters they are above and beyond the law but when the moment of reckoning draws near, they get cold feet and tender their insincere apologies. This has been going on too long and for far too many times.

Since the false accusations were against a public figure, the terms of the settlement must similarly be made public. Sorry, I am not in the mood to be forgiving. I want to feel, smell, and taste the blood.

Gen2: Civil servants' loyalty should be towards the rakyat, not towards politicians in power.

National Institute of Public Administration (Intan) needs to rework the mentality of the entire civil service to reorientate them towards this new philosophy.

It is government for the people, not for the cronies of BN.
