Universiti Islam Antarabangsa (UIA) is to screen the controversial May 13 film Tanda Putera to its students and staff again, this time at a closed-door session at its campus in Kuantan, Pahang, tonight.

NONE Sources in the UIA student services division confirmed that the screening, organised by the campus director's office, would be at the main hall of the campus at 9pm.

"It will be screened behind closed doors, to staff and students only," said an officer, who did not want to be named, when contacted by Malaysiakini .

Asked about the purpose of the screening, the officer declined to comment, saying it was beyond his authority to do so.

He also declined to comment when asked whether there would be a question-and-answer session after the screening, as took place after the Tanda Putera as screening at the UIA Gombak campus on March 9.

'Screening aimed at influencing students?'

Pro-Mahasiswa UIA students have questioned the move, considering it an attempt to influence the students to support a certain political coalition.

We Unite for Islam (Wufi) president Abdul Muntaqim Abu Bakar said he that suspected something was amiss, as the film was being "hurriedly promoted" in the background of the impending 13th general election.

"Why is it being screened when the election is near? Is it directed to influence the students to support a particular political party?" he asked.

He added that efforts to promote the film - which has been banned by the cabinet - have been detected.

Despite the ban, the film was being been shown at closed-door sessions at events organised by Felda and the UIA Gombak campus.

After the screening at the UIA campus in Gombak, a senior officer to Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak was reported to have criticised non-governmental organisations such as Bersih and online news portal Malaysiakini .
