A family feud is understood to have broken out between family members who control garment company Kamdar Group (M) Bhd.

In an announcement to Bursa Malaysia, Kamdar said that two shareholders holding more than 10 percent equity interest - Bipinchandra Balvantrai and Gautam Kamdar Bipinchandra - had written in.

Furthermore, both are asking for an extraordinary general meeting (EGM) to be held on May 2 in order to remove three directors.

The duo are seeking the removal of managing director and executive director Kamal Kumar Kishorchandra Kamdar, and two independent non-executive directors of the company, Rajesh Kumar Gejinder Nath and Frank Liang Ah Wah.

And in their place, Jugal Kishor Shivlal and Megat Abdul Munir Megat Abdul Rafaei are to be appointed on the board of Kamdar instead.

The notice added that any director appointed between March 15 to the date of the EGM is to be removed as well.

“There was some amount of tension earlier, some shareholding changes in end January indicated that something was brewing, looks like it’s out in the open now,” a source familiar with the family said.
