Subang MP R Sivarasa has urged the police to stop "harassing MPs" after Subang OCPD Yahya Ramli filed a police report against him and Puchong MP Gobind Singh Deo for raising a death in custody issue in January.

Sivarasa said he was interrogated for 30 minutes today, after being told that Yahya had filed a report, accusing the duo of criminal defamation under Section 500 of the Penal Code.

NONE "I understand that Gobind (left) also faced a similar interrogation last week," he said today.

He said he deplores the wasting of valuable time of senior police officers, who are being deployed in an unnecessary harassment exercise against opposition MPs.

Sivarasa said he and Gobind had helped the family of Chang Chin Te, who had died in police custody, to seek a second post-mortem after the first indicated that he had died of a heart attack.

Chang’s family eventually dropped their request, after being convinced by hospital authorities that there was no reason for a second post-mortem.

Chang is the son of Subang New Village head Chang Chan Ma, who is a member of Sivarasa's constituency.

"Gobind and I assisted the family in presenting a demand to the police headquarters to allow a second post-mortem," Sivarasa said.

He said they had to go to Bukit Aman because Yahya and Selangor CPO Tun Hisan Tun Majid had refused the family's request.

Link to murder case?

Sivarasa did not discount the possibility of the report being an attempt to stifle him and Gobind from calling for investigations to be reopened into the murder of Mongolian translator Altantuya Shaariibuu.

"It is possible," he said, when asked.

azlan Their calls followed an admission by private eye P Balasubramaniam that the second statutory declaration (SD) on the matter had been drafted on the instruction of Najib Abdul Razak, who was then deputy prime minister.

Bala’s lawyer Americk Sidhu, who made this revelation, also claimed to have heard this first-hand from Cecil Abraham, the senior lawyer accused of drafting the second SD.

In 2006, Bala had claimed in his first statutory declaration that Najib and his wife Rosmah Mansor were involved in Altantuya's murder, but retracted the claim the next day in another SD.
