your say Islander: When you issue a challenge and it is being accepted, it is only honourable to go ahead. Penang BN chief Teng Chang Yeow, Padang Kota is your home ground so the choice of the seat is a fair one to you.

Anonymous #49297474: In my opinion, Penang CM Lim Guan Eng need not reaction to Teng's challenge. Teng and Gerakan has already lost the respect of Penangites.

Furthermore, Gerakan association with Umno and Perkasa shows the party has no quality leadership and is morally bankrupted.

Lim Chong Leong: Teng has now checkmated himself by his own gambit. But he will say politics is not about fighting head on but about serving people, etc, etc. The only people he will serve however are his Umno masters.

Wira: Teng was a three-term state representative of Padang Kota. He definitely has the advantage because he is not an unknown there. Now we have to see if he has the balls to contest against Lim.

Blackmoon: The Padang Kota seat is a fair ground for Teng Chang Yeow and LGE (Lim Guan Eng) to battle it out.

Teng should go for it and my instinct says that he has the edge over LGE this time around because the political scenario and sentiment now are very different from that of 2008.

All that had happened the past five years has made the people wiser and Penangites will be voting using their heads instead of their hearts. My prediction is that Teng will win with a small majority.

Louis: Yes, Padang Kota is the right place for the battle of the giants. But, my bet is Teng will chicken out and go for a safer seat. He is already handpicked by Umno to be CM and would not risk losing the chance to be one.

On the other hand, Lim has more to lose in going to Padang Kota. A defeat means losing his CM's post.

Enuf: LGE is very arrogant. Why not both stand in a neutral seat? Perhaps a state seat in former PKR MP Zahrain Mohamed Hashim's Bayan Baru constituency?

Anonymous$&@?: For Lim, Padang Kota is a 50-50 seat. A majority of 1,600 votes in 2008 is not such a big margin.

With the Election Commission in BN's pocket and the postal votes, anything can happen. This shows that LGE is confident and willing to lose his CM's post. This is surely not arrogant.

With friends like Mahathir, you don't need enemies

Aries46: PM Najib Razak is no saint and he deserves every bit of what the old cunning fox is throwing his way.

Former PM Dr Mahathir Mohamad's worst miscalculation and regret in 2004 was appointing Abdullah as his successor whom he undermined every step of the way till Abdullah's forced relinquishment of his premiership in 2008.

Meanwhile shrewd and crafty Najib, noted for fishing in troubled waters, got into an immoral deal with the vengeful Mahathir in return for the DPM's post thus caving in to the old willy fox's condition that he be allowed to rule from behind when Najib ascends to the premiership.

This scheming and betrayal by Najib has come back as karma to hound him the last four years to the point that he may leave his legacy as the first PM to end his tenure without a mandate.

Starr: Clearly, Mahathir has been a political liability to Najib like he was to Abdullah. Because of Mahathir, Najib has not been his own man to pursue his own vision and direction for the country just in the same way as Abdullah on reforms.

Najib wanted to pursue reforms but his efforts were often hampered by Umno warlords like Mahathir and, as a result, his reforms policy is neither here nor there.

It may have escaped Najib's attention that the pursuance of reforms policy has to be done on a wholesale basis, not in a haphazard manner which the public would not buy after decades of Umno's monopolist approach to politics.

As long as Mahathir remains in the mainstream political arena, Umno would not return to its original nationalist path to nation building and development as envisaged by its founding fathers.

Najib must realise that there are rats within his own ranks. Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim is not his enemy, but Umno's culture of corruption, cronyism and nepotism is.

Cala: Since when is Mahathir's advice worth two sen to listen to? As Terence Netto has rightly said, he is more inclined to make his choice based on personal interest than anything else.

As always, his lust for power for the sake of his son's future means he is not speaking from a platform worthy of our attention. Indeed, he is just another Third World politician taking the people for a ride.

Kalari: Mahathir still craves to be PM, still craves to be adored as somebody great, still craves to have power. Sorry Mahathir, your time is over. You will be remembered as the PM who started the rot in Malaysia.
