DAP parliamentary leader Lim Kit Siang has called on Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak to make public the agreements on arms deals totalling RM4.2 billion inked at the Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition (Lima 2013).

This was more necessary than ever, Limn said, especially since Najib's government had 'expired' its term of office after serving more than five years since the 2008 general election.

lim kit siang story 1 "I call on Najib to make public all the mega defence and other contracts entered into by the federal government in the three weeks since March 8, when his premiership had ‘expired' its credibility, authority and legitimacy.

"This will be a further test of Najib's commitment to the war against corruption and to uphold the principles of accountability, transparency, integrity and good governance," the DAP national adviser added in a statement today.

Lim pointed out that a caretaker government could not enter into such major deals at Lima and doing so brought into question the issues of integrity and good governance.

"Why can't the RM4.2 billion arms deals in Lima wait until after the 13th general election for whichever government, whether BN or Pakatan Rakyat, to make the final decision?" he asked.

azlan Lim called for the RM4.2 billion deals to be put through rigorous scrutiny by a bi-partisan group of BN and Pakatan Rakyat MPs as well as NGOs.

"I want to reiterate that otherwise, the RM4.2 billion deals would be subject to review if Pakatan Rakyat forms the next federal government after the 13th general election, and cancellation if they are found to be unfair or involve abuses of power or corrupt practices," he said.

Should Pakatan take over the federal government after the 13th general election, it would use the deal to send out a clear and unequivocal message on accountability, transparency, integrity and good governance, Lim added.
