Maslan: BN must do everything to retain Johor
The Barisan Nasional (BN) will muster all its forces to ward off attempts by the opposition to capture Johor in the 13th general election, said Umno information chief Ahmad Maslan.
The Barisan Nasional (BN) will muster all its forces to ward off attempts by the opposition to capture Johor in the 13th general election, said Umno information chief Ahmad Maslan.
"We will shore up our defences to stop the opposition from making inroad in Johor," he told reporters after attending the Himpunan Barisan 1Malaysia event officiated by Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin in KL today.
Commenting on the opposition's plan to wrest the state from the BN, Ahmad said the opposition was naive about Johor's political landscape.
"Johor is Umno and BN's stronghold. The Malays unity is very strong in the state. If the opposition think that they can capture the state because there are many Chinese and Indian voters there, they do not understand Johor's politics.
"Anyway, they are also wrong about the Chinese and Indian voters if the Tenang state by-election in 2011 is anything to go by.
"BN candidate Mohd Azahar Ibrahim won the seat which has 53 percent non-Malay voters and 47 percent Malay voters," said Ahmad, who is also deputy minister in the prime minister's department.
