PKR assemblypersons continue to highlight the discrepancy in the moving out of voters done without their knowledge, and this is not only happening in Lembah Pantai.

Taman Medan assemblyperson Haniza Mohamed Talha said that in 2008, Samsiah Ariffin voted in her constituency and she only recently discovered that her name had been moved to Seri Setia for the state seat and Kelana Jaya for parliament.

azlan Haniza, who is also the Selangor deputy speaker, said Samsiah initially wanted to see her for assistance.

“When we checked her status, she was surprised to find out that she was listed to vote in Seri Setia whereas in 2008, she had voted in Taman Medan.

"We then checked the 2008 electoral roll and confirmed that she was listed in Taman Medan. I noticed this is not happening not only in my constituency or in Lembah Pantai as highlighted by Nurul Izzah Anwar,  but also elsewhere,” Haniza said.

The Taman Medan assemblyperson alleged that the Election Commission had been moving people without their knowledge.

She said there are 4,000 to 5,000 new voters in Taman Medan which is under the Petaling Jaya Selatan parliamentary constituency, and she suspects that Samsiah is not the only case as there are rumours of other voters being moved out.

Haniza said there is also one case highlighted to her that a 64-year-old elderly lady who is a voter in Selangor, now finds that her name appears as a voter in Penang.

The shifting, she said, was done without the voter’s knowledge.

She urged the EC to step up checks on the electoral roll list as people are losing their trust in the commission.

“Maybe a royal commission of inquiry should be held to study why this is happening around the country whereas the EC should have made sure the rolls are clean and voters are not moved out illegally,” she said.

Meanwhile, Selangor PKR secretary Amirudin Shari announced that Hulu Selangor PKR division chief Nazar Yakin will head the party’s election machinery in Selangor and become the party coordinator in the state.

‘Many capable people to lead the state’

Amirudin also asked Agriculture and Agro-based Industries Minister Noh Omar not to interfere in PKR affairs over his comments on the possibility of party president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail being the next menteri besar of Selangor.

“This only shows that Pakatan and PKR have many capable people to lead the state, unlike Umno and BN. Maybe if Noh wants, he can join PKR and submit his form to the party headquarters in Tropicana,” he criticised.

As to Wan Azizah’s position, Amirudin said let the party’s central leadership decide.

Unlike Pakatan or PKR, there does not seem a clear indication as to who would be the BN’s designated Selangor MB, despite Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak heading the state BN.
