DAP ustaz Syed Araniri Syed Ahmad Al Idrus has challenged two pro-Umno ulama (religious scholars) to a debate in Arabic.

NONE Syed Araniri, who is also DAP Taman Wira chief, said the challenge was conveyed to the Terengganu menteri besar's special religious officer Kamal Sadin and religious school founder Abdullah Sa'amah by a letter March 26.

The challenge comes after the Kamal and Abdullah declared that it was haram for Muslims to vote for the DAP, Syed Araniri said.

"Their statements are irresponsible and immoral, and aimed at creating discord and tension among religions and races," he said.

He also accused the Kamal and Abdullah of arbitrarily issuing fatwa for the sake of their personal publicity.

The debate in Arabic, if accepted, will be the first of its kind in Malaysia's political scene.
