Police have busted a syndicate in Bentong, Pahang that was engaged in illegal book making for the coming polls.

Federal police Secret Societies, Illegal Gambling and Anti-Vice Division principal assistant director, Datuk Abdul Jalil Hassan  said acting on a tip-off, police raided a shoplot in Bentong yesterday where illegal bets were being taken on the polls and arrested a man and a woman, suspected to be the bookies, and also three punters.

He said police also seiized RM619, handphones and betting slips in the raid.

"All the five suspects, aged in the 40s and 50s, are assisting us in the investigations. We do not dismiss the syndicate was revived to take bets for nomination day (April 20)," he told Bernama at his office here today.

He added that police had formed special teams in all districts to combat such syndicates and were also working with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission to stamp out illegal bookmaking on the polls using the Internet.
