Inspector-General of Police Ismail Omar has reminded district police chiefs (OCPDs) not to take side in dealing with cases during the polls to maintain the integrity of the force.

"The role and duty of the police during elections are as usual, namely to ensure peace, security and public order are under control," he said in a posting on the police Facebook.

He asked all police departments and contingents to ensure the highest level of preparedness, and logistics and communications needs to facilitate the smooth running of the 13th general election.

"Policemen on duty should also be professional in facing any situation or challenge during the polls," he said.

Meanwhile, the Inspector-General of Police Secretariat has reminded individuals, groups and non-governmental organisations against intimidating

voters.

   

Its public relations assistant head, ACP Ramli Mohamed Yoosuf said such action could undermine the process of democracy for it was against the law.

"The police have received information on bids to frighten voters from going to the polling station by setting roadblocks to check their identity cards.

"It is a criminal offence to carry out such activity without authority," he told a news conference at Bukit Aman, Kuala Lumpur.

He said the police would monitor attempts by certain group to disrupt the electoral process, including intimidating voters and advised voters to lodge police reports if they received such threats.
