PAS' strategy to field non-Muslim individuals as its candidates in the 13th general election is not a big threat for BN.

Kedah Umno liaison committee deputy chairperson Mukhriz Mahathir said he viewed the strategy as PAS' response to the plan made by its ally, DAP, to field Malay candidates.

"When DAP decides to field Malay candidates in Kedah, it is somewhat threatening to PAS. So now, PAS is also planning to let non-Malay and non-Muslim individuals to contest on its ticket in Johor.

"Whatever it is, we don't see it as a big threat. What matters is BN will field candidates who are credible, experienced and deserved to be elected to face them. We are prepared to face anybody," he told reporters after attending a function in Sungai Petani last night.

Yesterday, Johor PAS announced that it would field two non-Malay individuals, who are the supporters of PAS Supporters Congress, to represent the party in the general election.

Meanwhile, Mukhriz also advised former military officers who ventured into politics and planned to contest in the general election on the opposition's ticket to be careful in making statements and not to disclose classified information about the country's security.

It was not a good trend and the classified information, if leaked, could bring threats to the country, he said.

"As a country where the government is formed by the people, we are the only Asean member country which is not under military rule.

"So, I'm worried that what the opposition is doing now will change the country and the peaceful and harmony atmosphere we have been enjoying all this years," he added.
