Incumbent Selangor Menteri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim officially announced this evening that he will be contesting the May 5 general election in the state constituency of Port Klang.

azlan "I accept the leadership's suggestion to contest in Port Klang and promise to work hard to ensure the best for Port Klang and the people of Selangor," Khalid said in a Twitter posting.

This comes after he revealed yesterday that the PKR leadership wanted a heavyweight candidate in Port Klang to recover lost ground as its 2008 candidate there, Badrul Hisham Abdullah, had defected to the BN.

Khalid had said he was named by the party for the seat but had first wanted to gauge the local sentiments there.

He has also call on the people in his former constituency of Ijok to continue supporting Pakatan Rakyat.

PKR is expected to field local party activist Idris Ahmad, who is PKR Federal Territory chief, to take over from Khalid in Ijok.
