The three MCA candidates in Johor whose names had been withheld yesterday were officially unveiled today.

NONE The Tanjong Piai parliamentary constituency has reverted to incumbent Wee Jeck Seng (left) .

Wee was initially 'demoted' to contest in Pekan Nenas, a state seat under Tanjong Piai, when MCA released its candidacy list on Monday.

According to that list, MCA had named a new face, Wong You Fong, to defend Tanjong Piai.

Wee was not at the official event to name Johor BN candidates yesterday.

At the same time, the nominees for Tanjong Piai, the Pekan Nenas parliamentary seat and Senai state seat were not revealed.

It is understood that, following vocal protests by Wee and his supporters over the last 24 hours, the BN leadership caved in to pressure to retain Wee in Tanjong Piai.

Wong will now be fielded in Pekan Nenas.

NONE Wee, a protege of former MCA president Ong Ka Ting, had been appointed deputy youth and sports minister during Ong's tenure before being dropped by current MCA president Dr Chua Soi Lek.

With strong grassroots support behind him, Wee, 49 was first elected as Pekan Nenas state assemblyperson in 2004 before moving to Tanjong Piai in 2008.

Tang Nai Soon, the incumbent state assemblyperson for Pekan Nenas, will contest the Senai state seat, as originally announced by the MCA.

It is believed his candidacy was withheld yesterday in case the seat dispute between Wee and Wong could not be resolved.

‘Final decision by Najib’

The trio received their appointment letters from Johor BN head Abdul Ghani Othman this morning in Johor Bahru.

NONE However, Wee and Wong refused to disclose what had transpired over the past 24 hours.

"The matter has been resolved. Let's not look back. Now we need to work together to win the election," said Wee.

Wong revealed that Chua had explained that this is the "most winnable combination of candidates" and that she accepts what he said.

Ghani told reporters that the matter had been referred to BN chairperson Najib Abdul Razak last night who made the final decision.
