Kelantan PAS has announced its state exco member Takiyuddin Hassan will contest the Kota Bharu parliament seat, thus shutting the door on former minister in the Prime Minister's Department Zaid Ibrahim.

NONE The party also announced that Kelantan Menteri Besar Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat's son, Nik Abduh ( left ), wil go for the Pasir Mas , where Perkasa chief Ibrahim Ali is the incumbent.

A former Internal Security Act detainee, Nik Abduh is a PAS Youth committee member.

He will face Pasir Mas Umno deputy chief Che Johan Che Pa there.

Nik Abdul Aziz will defend his Chempaka seat.

In addition, former PAS deputy president Nasharuddin Mat Isa was not named to defend the Bachok parliamentary seat. The party instead named religious scholar Ahmad Marzuki Saari, in his place.

Nasharuddin has drawn criticism for being close to Umno and BN and he recently followed caretaker Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak on his trip to Gaza, Palestine.

It had earlier been reported that PAS and Pakatan were considering Zaid, the former Kita president, as the candidate for the Kota Bharu seat.

Zaid indicated in his blog posting yesterday that talks on the possibility of him vying for the seat were breaking down.

Build a moral and good gov't, Zaid tells new MPs

In his posting titled "Country and Conscience", Zaid said "Sometimes I wish I could rejoin the fray, instead of this leisurely retirement, but it's not to be."

NONE He also said: "These new parliamentarians need to assert themselves so they can together build a moral and good government that will aid the struggle for justice, equality and the democratic rights of all Malaysians."

Other incumbent MPs who will defend their seats are PAS central committee member Kamaruddin Jaafar ( Tumpat ), Dr Hatta Mohd Ramli ( Kubang Kerian , right ) and Siti Zailah Mohd Yusoff ( Rantau Panjang ).

The Kelantan list, as released by the party journal Harakah , includes doctors, lecturers and lawyers among the party candidates. The list was released in Machang yesterday.
