Electoral reform pressure group Bersih today praised interim law minister Mohd Nazri Abdul Aziz for his promise that police will take swift action against acts of political violence.

However, Bersih also wants to see swift indictments as well as continuous updates on ongoing police investigations into political violence.

NONE "They (the cases) cannot go to cold storage," said Irene Fernendez ( right ) who co-chairs the Bersih sub-committee that monitors political violence and ethics violations by the caretaker government.

Irene also called on the police to be "impartial" in their probes.

Other than continuous updates on the cases, she also wants police to share with the people areas that they have identified as "political violence hotspots", so that the citizens and Bersih could help monitor such incidents.

In praising Nazri's stand against political violence, another member of the sub-committee, Jerald Joseph, called on more caretaker government ministers and all candidates as well to declare their stand against political violence.

NONE Or else, Jerald ( left ) lamented, their silence would be tantamount to tacit acceptance of such violence, if not an endorsement of the despicable acts.

In speaking out against political violence yesterday, Nazri promised that all perpetrators, even if they were BN supporters, would face the full weight of the law.

The police have arrested over 15 suspects in various instances of political violence and election-linked cases since Parliament was dissolved on April 3.

However, investigation details have not been forthcoming, and nobody has been taken to court so far.
