Another incumbent deputy minister has come under fire over allegedly questionable university degrees listed in the ministry’s website.

Yesterday, DAP election strategist Ong Kian Ming claimed that five BN candidates , including a deputy minister, possessed “fake degrees”.

NONE Ong ( left ) in a statement today added another deputy minister from Borneo to the list.

He said checks with the universities listed on the ministry’s website data on academic qualifications showed that the institutions were raising eyebrows.

“Both our deputy... ministers have not one but two degrees from dubious universities. And to think that they have the temerity to list their bogus qualifications on the website of the (ministry).

“Such behaviour is totally unethical and unacceptable for any leader, not to mention two national leaders that are supposed to represent our nation on the international stage,” Ong said.

He said a 2009 report ‘Dodgy degrees’ in The Star supported his claim as it listed some of these institutions as problematic.

He added that the two universities cited by the deputy minister named yesterday were also listed in the article.

“Since my press statement came out, many concerned citizens have come forward to inform me that there are other BN candidates who also have degrees from dubious universities,” he said.

He also cited two MCA candidates whom he said had cited universities that were dubious.

“Let me reiterate again – I am not saying that one needs to be a graduate to be in a publicly elected official.

“What I am totally against the buying of degrees at whatever level.... Not having a degree does not disqualify someone from being a candidate.

“But having lied about how one has obtained a degree most certainly disqualifies a person, from an integrity standpoint, from being a candidate,” said Ong.
