Sarawak PKR and DAP appear to be on a collision course over Miri and Stampin as both sides have vowed to field candidates for the two urban seats.

NONE If neither party gives way, Miri and Stampin will likely be two of the few parliamentary seats in the whole country where PKR and DAP will face each other.

DAP announced in Sibu yesterday afternoon, that it would be contesting all urban seats in Sarawak and that their decision was final.

Sarawak DAP chief Wong Ho Leng ( right ) appeared resigned to the fact that a clash with PKR was inevitable.

"There should be a limit to negotiations. When you come to this point, so be it," he said.

However, he said that DAP and PKR can still cooperate and campaign for one another in other seats.

'Give us one Chinese-majority seat'

Later yesterday evening, PKR held a press conference of their own to announce candidates for 14 seats, including Miri and Stampin.

NONE Sarawak PKR chief Baru Bian ( left ) said that his party will not budge because they are following instructions from headquarters in Kuala Lumpur.

"The decision now lies with DAP, not PKR," he said.

However, Baru said that there is still time for negotiation before nomination day tomorrow, and a compromise could still be reached.

"There is still tonight and tomorrow night. Negotiations are ongoing. At least one Chinese-majority seat should be given to PKR," he said yesterday.

Based on the 2011 state election results, Pakatan Rakyat has a decent chance of winning both Stampin and Miri if there is a straight fight.
