Former housing and local government deputy minister Daud Taha died of a stroke at Kuala Lumpur Hospital today. He was 73.

His eldest child, Andrina Daud, 41, said her father was admitted to the hospital on Tuesday after suffering a stroke and was transferred to the emergency unit yesterday morning. He was pronounced dead at 2.49pm today.

“My father had never shown symptoms of a stroke before. I was shocked when he suffered a stroke on Tuesday,” she told Bernama.

Andrina said her father’s remains would be laid to rest at the Bukit Kiara Muslim cemetery in Damansara after Isyak prayers tonight.

Daud leaves behind his wife, Kamariah Mahmud, and nine children - six girls and three boys - and 14 grandchildren.

Andrina described her father as a strict but a loving person.

“My family will miss him dearly because of his loving nature and kindness to his children and other family members.

“He once told us that he had a dream of passing away on a Friday,” she added.

Daud, who hailed from Batu Pahat, joined Umno in 1962 and had a degree in accountancy from the Institute of Technology in West Australia in 1967.

Daud was Batu Pahat Umno division head from 1984 to 1993 and had served as public enterprises deputy minister between 1985 and 1990.

His last post in the government administration was housing and local government deputy minister from 1990 to 1995.
