Pay RM5mil if you jump, PKR candidates told

Surely there must be a better way of preventing such tendencies? We expect better ideas coming out of the Pakatan Rakyat coalition parties, please.

    

Pemuda Tua: Umno-BN can pay RM5 million on their behalf. There is no amount of money that can substitute one’s loyalty to their party. It's about honour, pride and dignity. They should sign an Akujanji letter that the seat will be given up. They cannot become Independents.

These terms are much better. It’s like you are putting up a price tag of RM5 million to Umno-BN. Seats are not for sale. Don't disregard the people who vote for the party instead of the candidates.

Chelsea: If we have politicians jumping ships, it proves the kind of politicians that we have in this country. There should be anti-hopping laws to prevent such a thing from happening.

The people voted for a candidate of a particular party because of their manifesto and ideas, but if he or she gets voted in then jumps ship, how can it still be legal?

    

Onyourtoes: When were Akujanji letters valid? Even pre-dated resignation letters are not generally considered valid. The most important thing still is to sieve the candidates as carefully as possible.

Voiceless: Shouldn't PKR nominate a back-up candidate for party vice-president Tian Chua just in case the Election Commission disqualifies him on account of his RM2,000 fine? We really can't trust these people.

    

Headhunter: It's only a deterrent. Those who jump will be offered much more for certain. If Pakatan can get more than a two-thirds majority, the best option is to make it mandatory for those who get elected to vacate their seats.

In the meantime, get all candidates to make a video convincing voters about why they would not jump ship if elected. When this is done, the video should be circulated to their constituents to show the people what kind of characters they are voting for.

Anonymous_4031: With bitterness eating into the hearts of grassroots leaders, Umno, MCA, Gerakan and MIC must be on the lookout for sabotage to rear its ugly head. It is like a snake that rears its head and takes pictures of seat-grabbers.

Why should MCA give way to Umno in Gelang Patah? MCA should fight or die. Yet, it is afraid to fight DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang.

Where is MCA president Chua Soi Lek? Why is he afraid to fight Lim Kit Siang? After all, you are the MCA president. A general must go in front and fight along with his soldiers, not run away and hide.

The way the general behaves, he is a coward. Mind you, Lim took a great risk by leaving his safe seat in Ipoh Timor and is entering the lion's den. Bukit Bendera MP Liew Chin Tong has also left his safe seat and is fighting in Kluang.

Even Serdang MP Teo Nie Ching has gone south to Kulai. Shakespeare's words ring true: ‘Cowards die many times before their deaths; the valiant never taste of death but once.’

Anonymous$&@: MCA, everyone knows that you are in politics to enrich yourself. For once, you all should wake up and sabotage BN’s chances, be a hero.

After this I am sure MCA can be a more equal partner in BN. Teach these Umnoputras a lesson. It’s a win-win for you and the rakyat.

Appum: I have said before that this election is between Umno vs Pakatan, not BN vs Pakatan.

This unhappiness in all the BN component parties is the result of the Umno master demanding seats from the other component parties, thus causing a multiplier effect of other component parties eating one another’s seats.

This is the final outcome. You see, when Umno potential candidates were sidelined they immediately closed their branches.

They are not scared at all. But the other component parties like MCA, Gerakan and MIC branch leaders only make threats of sabotaging the elections. Do it I say, don't just talk.

Show your master Umno not to take you for granted and your action this time during a mother of all elections will be most effective to teach your master a good lesson, so that next time they will play fair with the hard-working grassroots and listen to their suggestions.

By doing all these you are not creating a bad alternative for the people of Malaysia, that is if it is the people’s interest you care about.

With seats grabbed by Umno from your parties, MCA and Gerakan members, if you have any sense of dignity and are truly for the rakyat, it is high time for you to join in the tsunami to put Umno out of power.
