Three singing sensations who popular back in the 80s and early 90s are among those contesting in the 13th general election.

The new trend proves that the democracy process in Malaysia provides an equal opportunity to all quarters to take part in the polls.

Aishah, or her real name Wan Aishah Wan Ariffin, is contesting on PAS ticket for the Jempol parliamentary seat (Negri Sembilan), while Dayangku Intan, or her real name Tengku Intan Tengku Abdul Hamid will contest for the Pengerang parliamentary seat (Johor) on PKR ticket.

Aishah, who is popular with the song 'Janji Manismu' will face BN candidate Mohd Isa Abdul Samad, who is also Felda chairperson, in a straight fight in Jempol, while Dayangku Intan will engage in a three-cornered fight with Azalina Othman Said (BN) and Mohd Azaman Johari (Independent) in Pengerang.

NONE Their participation in the 13th polls, however, does not come as a surprise to many as PAS and PKR has made an announcement about it earlier.

What's more surprising is when Herman Tino appeared at the Datuk Hormat Hall in Tanjung Karang to submit his nomination papers to contest as an Independent candidate for the Tanjung Karang parliamentary seat (Selangor).

Herman Tino ( left ), or his real name Masrun Tamsi, 59, will face Selangor BN deputy chairperson Noh Omar (BN) and Tanjung Karang PAS deputy chief Mohamad Rashdi Deraman (PAS).

The Tanjung Karang-born singer, who is popular with songs like 'Yale Yale' and 'Pelita Dalam Kabus', will use the symbol of Bunga Raya (hibiscus) for the May 5 polls.
