Siblings to do battle in several seats in GE13

The most thrilling fight is probably the one involving the Kitingan brothers in Sabah for the Keningau parliamentary seat between PBS president Joseph Pairin Kitingan representing BN and his brother Jeffrey, who is chairperson of the State Reform Party (Star) Sabah.
This will be the second attempt by Jeffrey after losing to his brother two general elections before this.
Also garnering attention is the involvement of Shahrir Abdul Samad ( left ) and his younger brother Khalid in the Johor Baru and Shah Alam parliamentary seats respectively.
Despite the blood relations, they have different struggles and political ideologies which has brought them to opposing sides.
Shahrir will defend his Johor Baru seat on a BN ticket and Khalid through PAS.
Meanwhile, in the northern part of the peninsula, the position of Azizan Abdul Razak as Kedah Menteri Besar may be threatened as he is being challenged by his cousin, Mohd Fadzillah Mohd Ali of BN for the Sungai Limau state seat.
Apart from that, the participation of relatives in GE13 sees the prime minister's political secretary Sahlan Ismail standing in the Pokok Sena parliamentary seat while his younger brother, Saifuddin Nasution Ismail (
right
) of PKR will contest in the Kulim-Bandar Baru parliamentary seat, after moving from the Machang seat in Kelantan, which he won in 2008.
The Tenang and Buloh Kasap state seats in Johor will witness the presence of siblings as BN candidates, namely Mohd Azhar Ibrahim in Tenang and his younger sister, Norshida, who will stand in the Buloh Kasap state seat.
In Pahang, Syed Ibrahim Syed Ahmad and his uncle Syed Hamid Syed Mohamed will be contesting to defend the Kerdau and Kuala Semantan state seats under BN and PAS tickets respectively.
In Shah Alam, Nasarruddin M Zin and his brother Ahmad Nawawi will stand for BN and PKR banners for the Pelabuhan Klang and Batu Tiga state seats respectively, with Nasarruddin having to face Selangor Menteri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim who moved from the Ijok state seat.
Meanwhile in Sabah, Umno vice president Mohd Shafie Apdal will defend his Semporna parliamentary seat while his brother Yusof, a newcomer, will contest in the Lahad Datu state seat.
Political families
The GE13 will also see several families taking part in the election, namely that of Anwar Ibrahim, Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat, Lim Kit Siang and Karpal Singh dominating the list of candidates.
Anwar is staying put in the Permatang Pauh parliamentary seat in Penang while his eldest daughter Nurul Izzah will defend her Lembah Pantai parliamentary seat against Federal Territories and Urban Wellbeing Minister Datuk Raja Nong Chik Raja Zainal Abidin.
Son of Kelantan Menteri Besar, Nik Mohd Abduh Nik Abdul Aziz will be standing in the Pasir Mas Parliamentary seat while his father will defend the Chempaka state seat for the fifth time.
Kit Siang is leaving the Ipoh Timur parliamentary seat in Perak to try his luck in Gelang Patah, Johor while his son Lim Guan Eng who is also Penang Chief Minister will defend the Bagan parliamentary seat and Air Puteh state seat.
Meanwhile, Gobind Singh Deo will continue to stand in the Puchong parliamentary seat in Selangor while his father Karpal Singh and brother Jagdeep will defend the Bukit Gelugor parliamentary seat and Datok Keramat state seats in Penang respectively.
In Perlis, Shahidan Kassim (

) who is the deputy state Umno Liaison Committee chairman will stand in the Arau parliamentary seat after changing seats with his brother, Ismail in the Tambun Tulang state seat.
Not to be left out is Sabah Chief Minister Musa Aman and his brother Anifah Aman who will defend the Sungai Sibuga state seat and Kimanis parliamentary seat respectively.
Penang BN chairman Teng Chang Yeow will stand in the Bukit Tengah state seat compared to his elder brother Teng Chang Khim who will vie for the Sungai Pinang state seat in Selangor representing DAP.
