Umno vice-president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said voters should reject Independent candidates because most are disgruntled with their former parties.

"I think we should reject (the independent candidates) because most of them are those who are disappointed for not being selected by their party to contest," he said after opening the Karnival Sukan Rakyat in Sungai Ipil, Bagan Datoh, today,

"No matter how many candidates are contesting in this general election, ultimately it's the voters who decide who should represent them.

"But they should be smart in choosing the candidates. The important thing is to vote in Barisan Nasional (BN) candidates because if these individuals become elected representatives, they're going to help the people.

A total of 79 independent candidates will vie for parliamentary seats and 191 for state seats in GE13.
