Johor Umno liaison chairman Abdul Ghani Othman wants the Umno disciplinary committee to act fast against party members contesting as independents in the general election.
"This is a new phenomenon in Johor and the country. Overall, party members remain loyal and united," he said adding action by a few would not erode the support of members in the areas.
Four Umno members shocked many yesterday by filing papers to contest as independents and will meet Barisan Nasional (BN) candidates in the general election.
They were Md Ghazali Salamon (Bukit Naning), Mohd Azaman Johari (Pengerang), Mohd Zan Abu and Yunos Mustakin (Gambir).
Meanwhile, commenting on the clash between PAS and PKR candidates in Panti, Abdul Ghani said it shows that the opposition failed to resolve the distribution of seats.
"It is a different story in Mengkibol when incumbent Ng Lum Hua turned independent after the DAP nominated Tan Hong Pin for the seat," he said after meeting voters in Taman Melawati, Skudai today.
