The PAS-led Kedah government today declared polling day on May 5 a public holiday, the second state to do so after Kelantan.

Caretaker Menteri Besar Azizan Abdul Razak said the holiday would facilitate voting by public and private sector employees.

The granting of the holiday was decided at today’s weekly meeting of the state executive council.

“The people can go out and vote without any problem,” he told a news conference after chairing the meeting at Kota Darul Aman in Alor Setar.

Sunday is a working day in Kedah, just like in Kelantan.

Later this evening, the BN-run Terengganu government today declared polling day on May 5 as a public holiday, joining Kelantan and Kedah which had announced a similar holiday.

Caretaker Menteri Besar Ahmad Said said the decision to grant the holiday was made at a special meeting recently.

“Sunday is a working day in Terengganu, and the declaration of the holiday will make it easier for public sector employees to go to the polls,” he said after opening the Barisan Nasional (BN) operations room for the Jabi state constituency in Besut.
