PKR vice president Tian Chua has blasted BN deputy chief Muhyiddin Yassin for linking the explosion in Nibong Tebal to the opposition.

“His primary aim is to stir hatred and fear among the people towards the opposition parties,” said Chua in a statement today.

NONE He was responding to a report in a Chinese daily today, which quoted Muhyiddin criticising the opposition campaign as being increasingly “radical and extreme”.

In an immediate response to that comment which included a  mention of the explosion at the BN operations centre in the Penang district, Chua said that Muhyiddin was indirectly linking the incident to the opposition.

On Wednesday an explosion disrupted a BN ceramah featuring Penang Gerakan chief Teng Hock Nan, injuring a security guard.

There were also petrol bomb attacks against BN operations centres at Sungai Leman in Selangor and another in Ipoh yesterday.

Electoral reform advocates Bersih yesterday slammed the violence against the BN campaigners, blaming it in part on the government’s soft stance against political violence in the past.

Meanwhile the home of PKR Sri Andalas candidate Xavier Jayakumar 's daughter was also attacked and her cars set on fire last night.

'BN encouraged violence'

Chua reminded Muhyiddin that this is not the first example of such violence, recalling the explosions that rocked the outside of KL High Court on January 9, 2012 the day PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim’s verdict was read.

He said the Nibong Tebal incident only proves BN has failed to take a serious stand against political violence.

“Instead, BN has encouraged the spread of political violence to a dangerous level.

“As a deputy prime minister, he should view himself critically on his administrative failures to find a solution to the source of violence... instead of using the Nibong Tebal explosion to slander the opposition without providing proof,” he said.

“His actions show the immaturity of BN leaders and their desperation to fish for votes using dirty tricks.”
