It's a love-hate relationship for pollsters
YOURSAY 'History has shown that leaders who listen only to praises but refuse to accept criticisms are doomed to fail.'
PM used to love our surveys, says Umcedel
Anonymous_4031:
Universiti Malaya Centre for Democracy and Elections (Umcedel), now you know the character of caretaker PM Najib Abdul Razak. He loved your survey when it was in his favour. Now, your second survey is not in his favour, he talks rubbish.
It is a love-hate relationship. Love you, when the sun shines; hate you, when the rain comes. So, do not be naive. Just do your survey honestly, and fear no one.
Whatever it is, you will be damned if you do, and damned if you don't do. You might as well be damned and do what is right. Go ahead and do other surveys. Who knows, Najib 's rating may nose-dive, while Anwar's may soared. Or, will it be the other way around?
Never mind, whichever way the wind blows, just do your job diligently and impartially; and you will earn the respect of most Malaysians, if not all.
Jeng Jeng Jeng: "I don't agree with the poll. We have our own poll. My poll indicates that we are ahead," Najib said. What a classic answer from our caretaker prime minister - like an ostrich burying its head in sand.
Anonymous #12566075: It is simple; when you say I am a good man, I love you. When you say I am not so good, I do not like you.
History has shown that leaders who listen only to praises but refuse to accept criticisms are doomed to fail. Never mind, Umcedel, the people's judgement is more important and meaningful than BN's.
Mahashitla: That's how the Umno-BN government has been ruling for the last five decades. As the 2008 tsunami still cannot make them change their views, we need a 9.0 political earthquake in this GE.
Anyone But BN: Umcedel has got it easy. Bank Islam chief economist Azrul Azwar Ahmad Tajudin was suspended for predicting Pakatan would win the coming GE. Careful, this is Bolehland.
RR: For Umno, it is a case of heads I win and tails you lose. It will be finally the decision of the rakyat to change the unprincipled and corrupt Umno-BN government of 56 years.
Let Pakatan rule for just five years. If Pakatan is bad and corrupt too, then we will throw them out too.
Theresa Yip: Umcedel, if I were you, I would say Najib's chance is 55 percent and Anwar's 38 percent. That will make Najib very happy and get you in his good books.
Gongming: Actually BN already knows it's going to lose. Its own intelligence reports have confirmed that. Of course they will deny that, but come May 6, god willing, we will have a new government.
Wira: The reason why Umcedel even dared to release the report is probably because they know, from the survey, that BN will lose this general election. The ‘Rahman' prophesy is going to be fulfilled.
Anonymous-BP: Of course, Najib can only accept the good results but not the bad. If you now declared there is a mix-up in the results, Najib would be delighted. He will then surely praise your survey and your methodology.
Progressive: Umcedel, thank you for a job well done and congratulations for standing up to Najib. Your integrity is most commendable. Keep up your good work.
TheSilentMajority: It's the BN way; "our own surveys", says Najib. Does he think anyone except themselves, will believe results of surveys done by them, for them and showing them on top?
What a bunch of clowns we have in high positions. Funny - yes. Intelligent - no.
Siang Malam: As long as you have done your polls professionally and without fear and favour, your conscience is clear.
It's just too bad you have a recalcitrant as a prime minister. Anyway, just bear with it for another week, by Monday it will be the dawn of a better Malaysia.
AlexC: Some unsung hero working in Umcedel who stands by his professional working ethics is going to lose his job. Pray he get the support he deserves.
Wanderer: Good on you Umcedel, you stood by the truth. The truth is Umno-BN is walking ‘The Last Mile.'
Anonymous #03216792: Umcedel, please pray very hard in the coming last few days before the GE. Because if BN wins, even if it's through cheating and phantom voters, your promotions and pay increases will be put on hold.
Borg Kinaulu: What is more telling than the survey result is that Umcedel actually dared to publish it and to defend it against Najib's criticism.
It means Umcedel is not afraid of retaliation. That probably means Umcedel is reasonably confident that Najib won't be around to punish those who dared to publish negative survey findings.
Hold Awam Accountable: Wah, this is true BN sportsmanship. First, shift the goalposts, bribe the linesmen and bully the referee. Then, if all that fails, get their fans to go on a rampage.
