Election watchdog Bersih may blacklist political parties that continue to breach the caretaker government guidelines, in addition to its political violence blacklist.

"While we have no power (to impose penalties)... the blacklist will serve to help the rakyat make their choice," said Irene Fernandez, who co-chairs the movement’s special committee on political violence and caretaker government guidelines.

NONE By naming and shaming the perpetrators, Irene said, the rakyat could see who have been naughty and who have been nice, before wrapping up and delivering the GE13 ‘presents’ to the candidates and political parties contesting.

As of now, the Bersih special committee has blacklisted caretaker Home Minister Hishammuddin Hussein, caretaker Defence Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and BN’s Gopeng candidate Hamidah Osman for either perpetrating or condoning political violence.

The movement for clean and fair elections explained that it would be slightly more lenient with incidents of caretaker government guideline breaches and has withheld blacklisting for now as both sides of the political divide were just beginning to implement the new concept.

Fernandez said at the last press conference this Friday, before polling on Sunday, the special committee will release its caretaker government guidelines violators blacklist, if there is one.

The special committee has hit out at both sides of the political divide for alleged violations of caretaker government guidelines during the campaign period since it started monitoring both sides after nomination day on April 20.
