KUALA LUMPUR Against the backdrop and bright lights of the iconic Kuala Lumpur City Centre and KL Tower, some 5,000 people thronged the Kelab Sultan Sulaiman field last night to perform special prayers ( munajat ) for the PAS, PKR and DAP candidates' victory as polling day is just three days away.

NONE The imam leading the congregation had asked for divine intervention against the BN machinery in using government agencies and a media onslaught to influence the people.

“Please give victory to the candidates from Pakatan Rakyat comprising PAS, PKR and DAP. Maintain the states under Pakatan rule and help us get a breakthrough towards governing Putrajaya.

“Destroy our opponents from BN who had been abusing the country and had been cruel to its people.

"Give us victory so that Pakatan can set up a just government for the people come May 6,” the imam ,who led the congregation. said to a resounding, “Amen” from the congregation.

The crowd grew in size as the frail incumbent Kelantan Menteri Besar Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat stepped onto the field  which was greeted by shouts of “God is great”.

The 82-year-old had come to Kuala Lumpur to campaign for Titiwangsa PAS and Pakatan candidate Ahmad Zamri Asa'ad Khuzaimi, the PAS Federal Territory deputy commissioner who is defending  the seat against the Umno Titiwangsa division chief Johari Abdul Ghani.

NONE Also present at the event were PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail and several Kelantan exco members.

While caretaker Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak is visiting Kelantan today, and his deputy Muhyiddin Yassin is busy with  his onslaught against the PAS stronghold, Nik Aziz ( right ) in his simple and short speech told the Kelantanese in Kuala Lumpur to return to the state and vote to maintain the just Islamic government there.

“Come back and vote to help defend the present (caretaker) PAS government, and at the same time, drive back carefully,” he added.

Nik Aziz reminded the people that Islam has all the answers to govern the people justly as the country cannot be run on nationalism, he said in reference to Malay nationalist party Umno.

During the event, popular drama actor Mustafa Kamal Mohd Daud - who hails from Kota Baru - led the pledge of  the Kelantanese  in the crowd to  return and vote to defend the PAS government.

'The people, the kingmakers now'

On another note, Kelantan state legislative assembly speaker Nasruddin Daud told the people not to be afraid to cast their vote.

“An army man had approached me, expressing fear of voting for the opposition. Can you imagine an army man who is used to facing bullets and bombs being afraid of voting for fear of getting transferred?

NONE “I told him ‘do not fear’ as today the power has returned to the people and the people are the kingmakers now.

"This is not the season of transferring people out, but this is the time to change the government as the people are the kingmakers now,” said Nasruddin.

The Kelantan speaker also stressed that there is no need to worry as Umno-BN's life is nearing its end, and come May 5, Umno and BN's lives will come to an end and we will have a new government.

“On nomination day itself, Umno already lost one seat when its candidate did not want to contest in Pasir Mas,” he said in an obvious reference to Che Johan Che Pa who made way for a straight fight between Perkasa president Ibrahim Ali and PAS’ Nik Abduh Nik Abdul Aziz.

“Do not worry about Ibrahim, let the Pasir Mas people deal with him accordingly,” he said.

NONE Nasruddin also mocked Muhyiddin ( left ) for urging the people of Kelantan to go on a jihad or holy war in throwing away the PAS government and who claimed to be a religious figure himself as his father Muhammad Yassin Mohammad was also a respected scholar.

“I ask the people why should we change when what we have sudah molek (is already good)? Normally, people want change for the better and not for the worse,” he quipped.

Wan Azizah, in her speech, said she and her family never regretted seeing her husband Anwar Ibrahim being incarcerated for six years in 1999 for alleged abuse of power, as this has managed to set the tone for an uprising of the  people as seen today.

She noted that  Anwar's sacrifice was for the people to realise the atrocities committed by Umno and BN.

In addition, Wan Azizah, in Anwar's defence, said he was not the person in the infamous sex video shown by the “ Datuk T ” trio.

“I admit to having seen the pictures in Malaysiakini . I know the person in the video is not my husband as the image does not fit the image I have of him,” said the smiling mother of six as the crowd broke out in shouts of “Reformasi”.
