JOHOR The implementation of any policy or law, including the controversial hudud, will only be done with the consensus of all three Pakatan Rakyat parties should the coalition capture Johor, the state PAS said today.

NONE "We in Johor don't betray one another. If we get the mandate, every policy will be decided together. We will not betray our friends," Johor PAS deputy commissioner Mazlan Aliman ( left ) told a press conference in Johor Bahru today.

"Johor has a multiracial society. The implementation (of hudud) may be different, compared with that in other states like Kelantan.

"Every policy, including hudud, can only be decided through the process of consensus, meaning if the consensual decision is that any policy cannot be implemented, then we will decide that way,” Mazlan added.

'Hudud an agenda in PAS struggle'

He said this in response to reporters pressing the PAS vice-president Salahuddin Ayub on whether the Islamic party would push for the implementation of hudud if  the Pakatan were  to take over the Johor government.

Initially Salahuddin refused to answer the question, asking the reporters to refer it to the party president.

NONE He then conceded that hudud was indeed an agenda in the PAS' struggle, but the party was sticking to the common manifesto of Pakatan for the general election, .

However the reporters were not satisfied, pointing out that voters needed to know whether the Islamic system of punishment for crime would be implemented if Pakatan took power.

“We will cross the bridge when we come to it,” Salahuddin ( above ) replied, after which Mazlan took up the question and stated the stance of Johor PAS.

While Mazlan was finishing his explanation, Salahuddin interrupted and warned a reporter from a mainstream English daily, in a stern voice, not to distort Mazlan's statement.

“You want to manipulate the statement. You don't.... You have malicious intention...,” he said in a stern voice, pointing his finger at the reporter.

Salahuddin then ended the subject matter.

“Hudud is PAS' agenda. Whatever happens tomorrow, we will discuss in the Pakatan leadership council. Full stop. No more hudud, please. Any other question?”
