Deputy inspector-general of police Khalid Abu Bakar has directed police in Segamat to stop the National Union of Bank Employees (Nube) from picketing in Segamat as there were elements of
politics involved.
Khalid, who issued the directive, said if Nube was allowed to continue picketing, it may trigger chaos and pose a threat to the peace and security in the district.
“They gave us notice to hold a picket but they seem to be involved in political campaigns and activities instead of their original intention,” he said, adding that their action had raised tension in the district.
He was speaking to reporters after visiting the Johor police headquarters yesterday to see the police’s preparations for the 13th general election.
Khalid said Nube were found to have invited a member of a party that will be contesting for the Segamat parliamentary seat for their cause, as well as trying to influence voters in the constituency to not vote for another candidate.
