A group of men attacked two cars heading to an election ceramah in Teluk Intan, south of Ipoh, last night, damaging the vehicles and injuring five men who were in it, police said today.
Perak Police election spokesperson Supt Maszely Minhad said the group hurled bricks and other objects at the cars as they headed for Taman Desa Aman, Batu 6, at 8.20pm.
The police had arrested four suspects, he told reporters at the Perak Police headquarters in Ipoh.
Meanwhile, the BN candidate for the Teluk Intan parliamentary seat in the 13th general election, Mah Siew Keong, when approached, said the group smashed the windscreen of the cars with bricks and flower vases.
"The victims could not fight back as there were many members in the group of attackers, who were also aggressive," he said.
Mah said he would be in the area on polling day on Sunday to ensure that all voters could come out to cast their votes without fear.
