PAS spiritual leader Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat has issued a guarantee that not a single civil servant nationwide would be sacked if Pakatan Rakyat takes power after tomorrow's election.

"PAS would continue to fight and release civil servants from their political clutches and ensure that not a single civil servant would become political victims even if they hold different political beliefs," he said in a statement today.

His statement is likely to allay the civil servants' fear of political retribution, or DAP's calls last year to downsize the civil service on grounds that it is too large. Civil servants are largely Malay BN supporters.

In addition, Nik Aziz, who is also the Kelantan caretaker Menteri Besar, pledged to uphold the monarchy and the special position of the Malays as spelled out in the federal constitution.

NONE Meanwhile in a separate statement, PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang ( right ) assured voters that public institutions related to the practice of Islam or the special position of Malays would not be adversely affected.

"PAS would ensure that the interests of Malays and Islam would be well-looked after under Pakatan Rakyat without interfering or being unfair to any party.

"Therefore the existence of agencies and entities such as Universiti Teknologi Mara, Mara, Tabung Haji, and others would be strengthened to suit the times to face mounting challenges from the outside world," he said today.
