If old is gold, a nonagenarian, who is the oldest candidate at the 13th general election (GE13), hopes to strike gold as she cast her vote for the Kuala Terengganu parliamentary constituency in Kuala Lumpur today.

Maimun Yusof, 94, arrived at SK Sultan Sulaiman (I) at 9.40am, and cast her ballot 45 minutes later.

Dressed in a bright orange baju kurung - probably to grab the attention of the voters, this time around - ‘Tok Mun’, as she is affectionately known, headed towards the polling centre alone.

A neighbour had earlier given her a lift to the polling centre.

She said she was excited to vote and woke up at 6am to get ready to go to the polling centre.

“I’ve campaigned door-to-door and pray and hope that people vote me this 13th general election.

“I can’t wait for the results to be announced by the Election Commission today,” she told reporters after casting her vote.

In 2008, Tok Mun contested against former incumbent Razali Ismail and PAS deputy president Mohammad Sabu, garnering only 685 votes.

Needless to say, she lost her deposit.
