A car belonging to the wife of an election observer was damaged after being hit by a molotov cocktail in Duyong in Malacca early today.

Malacca Chief Police Officer Chua Ghee Lye said the incident happened between 3am and 3.30am when the 27-year-old woman was rudely awaken from sleep after hearing some noise outside her house.

When the woman came out of her house to investigate what had happened, she found the bonnet of her Perodua Myvi car on fire, he said.

She quickly sought help from two men who were in the neighbourhood to put out the blaze, he said.

The husband was not at home when the incident occurred, he told reporters.

In an unrelated incident, two men were assaulted for wearing a T-shirt bearing the Barisan Nasional (BN) symbol by what is believed to be rival party supporters in two separate incidents.

In the first incident, a 32-year-old motorcyclist was hit on the head with a wooden stick when passing through Lorong Pandan at about 11.30pm.

The motorcyclist, however, did not sustain injuries as he was wearing a helmet.

Fifteen minutes later, a 21-year-old youth was kicked in his abdomen when passing through the same road, but he was not injured.
