In a case of mistaken identity, the husband of a policewoman was assaulted by a mob as he queued to cast his vote at Dewan Serbaguna Rawang this morning.

"I was confronted by a group of men and women who accused me of being a foreigner. They hurled all sorts of allegations at me before I was kicked in the back and hit by one of them," said Tajudeen N Anver Dacha. as quoted by The Star Online .

Tajudeen, 50, said he was born in Taiping, Perak, and is a Malaysian.

"I feared for my safety and was upset that I was denied the right to vote despite being a legitimate Malaysian citizen."

NONE How could anybody, the online version the the MCA-owned newspaper quoted Tajudeen as saying, bar him from voting and discriminate against him because he is a fair-complexioned Indian Muslim.

He has lodged a police report at the Rawang police station.

"I will go back there to vote again as soon as I have finished at the police station," Tajuddeen said.

Meanwhile, Malaysiakini journalist Ram Anand was also stopped from entering his polling centre in Sitiawan, Perak, this morning after some PAS party workers suspected him of being a foreigner.

Ram went to a primary school in Kampung Sitiawan at 8am to vote, but was stopped at the entrance to the school by a PAS party worker.

The PAS worker and a DAP party worker then checked Ram's MyKad asked him a number of questions, including details of his education.

Once they appeared satisfied with his answers, the party workers sounded jubilant and said, "so you know how to vote" and let him enter the polling centre.
